Ösel Ling Monastery

Ösel Ling monastery was established by the late great Dzogchen master, Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, who was Tsoknyi Rinpoche’s father. Ösel Ling, located on top of a steep hill overlooking the Kathmandu valley, is Tsoknyi Rinpoche's main seat in Asia. More than 100 monks from Nepal and Tibet are educated here by Khenpos (teachers) who are widely versed in many aspects of Tibetan Buddhism. Daily classes are given in many subjects, such as Tibetan, Nepali and English language, history and calligraphy. The monks are also well trained in philosophy, debate and traditional ritual practice. Many of the monks come from Nubri and Mustang, remote and poor areas of northern Nepal.
